The Story
The King siblings haven't all been in the same room in years - not since life, distance, and old resentments pulled them apart. But when Joy calls them together for a weekend getaway, insisting she has something important to discuss, none of them imagine what's waiting once the door closes behind them. Joy is carrying a lie of her own. One that, when it finally surfaces, may not bring her siblings closer. It may be the thing that proves they really are a family that lies together.
Joining them is Tara, Joy's best friend and closest confidante, the one person who seems to have Joy's back no matter what. But Tara's loyalty comes with a cost. She's been helping Joy keep her secret while carrying one of her own that could unravel everything, including her friendship with Joy.
Dennis, the oldest, arrives with his girlfriend Brandi, with an i, uninvited and immediately unwelcome. Her presence alone unsettles the room before she's said a single word. Armani, the socialite, has built a life that looks like success. But behind the designer labels is a debt she's spent years hiding from everyone, including herself. And Diane, the picture-perfect wife and mother, has spent years perfecting the role and she's not about to break character.
The Family That Lies Together is a dramedy about the performances we give the world and the people we abandon in the process. It is a story about shame, survival, and the kind of love that refuses to let you keep lying, to your family, or to yourself. This is not a story with easy answers. It is a story with honest ones.
Miss Monique and Raisin AJ Productions present their most ambitious work to date: a departure from the familiar, and a step toward something deeper, rawer, and more demanding. The Family That Lies Together is theater that thinks, and it asks you to think too.
